Hong Kong - Treasure hidden within

The city with population more that 7 million people packed in small area of not more than 1000km square. It’s one of the most high density populated city in the world. Despite this fact they still preserve they parks and surrounding nature which takes 40 % of whole designated area of Hong Kong. Before I traveled to HK I was expecting highly crowded smelly, very busy city as all other cities in Asia which is true, but not entirely.

So how I mentioned before 40 % of HK area are hills with nature so it wasn’t just big city like Tokyo. Its nice surprise to see it on my own eyes that people are still trying to protect nature even in harsh condition as HK where to get normal sized apartment similar to Europe its impossible or its possible of course but for huge amount of money. Unfortunately lack of space in HK is everyday reality. Overpriced small apartment which not everybody can afford it, lot of people have to live in tough conditions in tiny spaces share with others without privacy.

Let’s talk about positive sites why I liked that big former colony of England. Interesting fact is the citizens of HK are usually very patriotic and if you going to tell to somebody from HK he is Chinese you would definitely will get immediate answer that he is not Chinese at all he is from HK, it’s not the same. They speak differently. In China is mandarin language in HK Cantonese and written words are in China simplified Chinese, in HK its traditional Chinese. So as result they don’t understand each other but for Chinese is possible to read their texts in HK and opposite.

People of HK and the country is practically still separated from China despite the fact that in 1997 they had been merged together HK still keep different rules and laws compare with China.

I loved the cabin car which takes you to small village with big Buddha sitting on lotus leave on top of mountain. Main purpose of the village is of course tourism, full of restaurant and souvenir shops but for other hand the spirit of local culture still remains there. I bought there my own personal chopsticks so from now on will never eat with other chopsticks but only with mine! :)

After cable car I checked out more downtown. Interesting was to see middle of the sidewalks especially when is high rise were build escalators. It was quite practical because a lot of streets in HK have high slope and it can be sometimes really exhausting. I have noticed high concentration of Tesla cars in HK. I think it makes sense because for driving in the city doesn’t have to pass big distances, all is about waiting on crossways for red or looking for parking place so full electric car is very good choice, especially environmental. Other vehicles which I have never seen before was a special Hong Kong trams, very thin and higher than the normal type of tram. They have routes only along site with coast of the city.

Lot of people said that HK is expensive but honestly I have tried many places where to eat and average price was definitely lower than in any western European country .I have found Victoria Park which was very nice but as everywhere else in HK, pretty crowded.

Last destination was Victoria Peak. This place completely surprised me by the amazing, stunning view on HK from top of the mountain. Actually it was more like big park than hiking area. There few long sidewalks around whole peak surrounded by big forest and high altitude view. I have spent not more than week in HK so I have no more opinions or fact which in my mind I should mention but I think I include all important.

Next is coming Taiwan!
